Art, Friendship, and the Power of Connection: A Conversation with Dina Deason

One of the great joys of working in the art world is discovering how meaningful relationships often begin in the most unexpected ways.
Recently, I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Dina Deason for her podcast, Artful Living with Dina. During our conversation, we explored my journey as an art curator, cultural strategist, and creator of art experiences on Sea Island and beyond. We discussed the power of art to connect people, inspire communities, and enrich lives.
The interview also provided an opportunity to reflect on one of the most rewarding artistic collaborations of my career—my work with acclaimed New York artist Amy Myers.
Amy and I first met several years ago at a Sea Island conference. Seated together at dinner, we quickly discovered our shared New York roots and immediately connected. What began as a chance meeting evolved into a valued friendship and professional partnership that has brought Amy's extraordinary artwork to audiences throughout the Southeast.
This year, that collaboration culminated in a remarkable Sea Island art event where Amy's museum-quality works were showcased in an elegant private residence overlooking the marshes. Guests experienced an evening of art, conversation, music, and hospitality that celebrated creativity and community.
As Dina noted during our discussion, successful art events are about much more than displaying beautiful works. They are about creating an atmosphere where people feel welcomed, inspired, and connected. I have always believed that art should be approachable and engaging, and I strive to create experiences that reflect that philosophy.
Producing events of this caliber requires an incredible team. I am fortunate to work alongside outstanding professionals throughout the Sea Island community, including caterers, florists, musicians, designers, and real estate professionals who help bring each vision to life.
A special acknowledgment goes to Adair Allen, whose exceptional work representing some of Sea Island's finest properties provided the perfect backdrop for this event. Together, we created an experience that highlighted both Amy's extraordinary artwork and the beauty of the Sea Island lifestyle.
